The MJW Companies is seeking a health physicist to help provide technical support to a group of health physicists and statisticians who are reconstructing historical exposures of workers to radiation and radioactive materials in the workplace.
Requirements:
- Graduate level knowledge of health physics, especially internal and external dosimetry
- At least 5 years of operational experience (including internal dosimetry) in the radiation protection program at a DOE facility
- Strong desire to be mentored by senior internal dosimetrists and statisticians
- Aptitude for clearly communicating complex health physics and statistical concepts to coworkers and non-technical personnel, both verbally and in writing
- Aptitude for exploratory data analysis with attention to detail
- Aptitude for clear-thinking and technical calculations and the desire to learn more
- Knowledge of a programming language
Preferences:
- Ability to perform complex internal dosimetry calculations from first principles
- Working knowledge of mathematical statistics and data analysis at the undergraduate level
- Working knowledge of programming the scripting language R

MJW is currently seeking Health Physicists to support the Energy Employee Occupational Illness Compensation Act (EEOICPA) Project in the area of Dose Reconstruction work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Produces and reports timely dose estimates, supporting methodology, and factual basis for each claim received by NIOSH from DOL under EEOICPA, and for claims requiring rework because of changes in claim information or changes in dose reconstruction policy.
- Performs internal and external dose reconstructions and peer reviews.
- Performs complex and in-depth evaluation of physical quality, accessibility, and relevance of discovered data and records.
- Evaluates medical histories.
- Utilizes site research documents, reports, and other applicable records to retrospectively reconstruct occupational radiation doses.
- Documents findings and writes detailed reports that clearly and accurately reflect the results of the individual dose reconstruction, including probability of causation.
- Responds to issues brought out in the COI, NIOSH comments/questions, and ABRWH reviews.
Candidates will work with other HP professionals through training and collaboration.
Candidates should be reliable, mature, detail-oriented, organized, and able to work under time constraints in a busy project-oriented environment.
Preferred Skills:
- Minimum Bachelor’s degree in health physics, environmental or natural sciences, or related field

IT Specialist 1 – Cincinnati, OH
MJW is currently seeking an IT Specialist to support our helpdesk activities.
The IT Specialist 1 is responsible for taking initial telephone, email, or ticketing system inquiries and addressing relatively simple laptop/desktop hardware, software, or network problems. This position will document all support requests in the Help Desk ticketing system and provide more detailed documentation in the Help Desk team OneNote repository. Individual will recognize and escalate more difficult requests as necessary to Systems Administrators, Cybersecurity Analysts and Application Developers, and this position will be required to participate in an on-call rotation for non-business hours support with other Help Desk staff.
Training is encouraged and candidates will work with other IT professionals.

Claimant Phone Interviewer – Cincinnati, OH
We are excited to announce openings at our Cincinnati, Ohio office.
Candidates should be reliable, mature, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, problem solving skills, and be detail-oriented, organized and able to work under time constraints in a busy project-oriented environment. Responsibilities include: effective listening skills in transcribing telephone interviews with claimants with high quality; ability to understand and explain results of technical reports in a manner the claimant may understand clearly. Candidates will need to use problem-solving skills to anticipate and respond to claimant questions and concerns during telephone interviews. Ability to type at least 60 words/minute is necessary.
A 4-year degree with a science or math background or 8 years comparable experience is required.
Knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook required. In addition, candidates must be proficient in MS Outlook email, calendar, scheduling and task manager functions.

TENORM Radiological Control Technician – Part Time/Seasonal
This is a SEASONAL position.
We are excited to announce openings at our Amherst, NY office. These openings are offered on a part time or full-time basis to support client projects of varying duration. The work involves the monitoring of construction activities to determine the presence of Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Material (TENORM) typically in the Western NY area.
Candidates should be reliable, mature, detail-oriented, organized and able to work under time constraints in a busy project-oriented environment. Any math or science background a plus. Excellent communication and grammar skills are a must.
Requirements include:
- Radiological monitoring or environmental experience preferred but not required.
- Valid Driver’s License and dependable Car/Truck
- Ability to observe and concisely document and describe field activities
- Ability to complete forms and generate field sketches
- Ability to perform calculations such as to record and calculate the average of several numbers
- Ability to work outside in cold or hot weather
